Novacool®

Baum’s Castorine was founded by Frank L. Baum (Wizard of Oz author) and his brother in 1879 to make lubricants. Using similar surfactant technology, Baum's developed a unique fire suppressant foam, Novacool®, that puts out all types (A,B, D, K) of fires extremely quickly and effectively by utilizing patented technology that rapidly cools, emulsifies and blankets fires. Due to a dosage rate of 0.5%, Novacool® is the lowest cost fire suppressant foam on the market (finished foam cost). Novacool® is UL Classified - NFPA 18. Novacool® was first used to put out the persistent fires resulting from the 9/11 attacks. Novacool® is fluorine (PFAS - PFOA/PFAS) and carcinogen free. HL Blachford acquired Baum's Castorine in 2025 and continues the tradition of manufacturing this unique fire suppressing technology.
