UAS Researcher
NIST Public Safety Communications Research Division
Stephanie Layman is the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) Researcher and Prize Challenge Manager for the Public Safety Communications Research Division at the United States’ National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST PSCR). She has led the design and execution of prize challenges, leveraging open innovation and integrating technical, legal, communications, and procurement functions, to accelerate R&D and technology adoption for public safety applications. Prior to joining PSCR, Stephanie spent six years as a contracted project manager and research analyst for government clients, including NIST, the Department of Energy, Colorado Energy Office, Denver International Airport, Regional Transportation Authority, and the City and County of Denver. She also brings additional experience in public-sector project management and communications from the U.S. Peace Corps, Urban Leaders Fellowship, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and LIVESTRONG Foundation. Stephanie holds a PMP certification, FAA Part 107 certification, MPA from Indiana University, and BA from the University of Texas.
